My name is Noortje, I am 19 years old and this year I will be EPU’s Commissioner of External Affairs, which I am really excited about! This year I am a second year student of American Studies. When I started studying here in Groningen last year, I did not know anyone yet, so joining EPU was a no-brainer for me. Last year I was a member of the Activities and the Travel Committee, which were both a lot of fun to do. Because I was involved with the organisation of a lot of activities last year, I can’t wait to see what this year will bring!
I was born and raised in Hoogkarspel, a small town in Noord-Holland. Being from a small town, I have always had a big love for traveling and learning about the world. When I had to decide what I wanted to study, I did not know what to do because there was a lot of things I found interesting. Luckily I came across the American Studies program, which I really liked, as it combines a lot of disciplines and gives you the opportunity to pick courses you find most interesting. So far it has been a challenging program, but nonetheless interesting and a good choice!
I think EPU is the perfect mix between your study and social activities as it offers a fun way to get to know your fellow students more. Joining EPU really helped me getting to know people and finding my way in a city where I didn’t know anyone. I am excited about being part of the 28th board this year and being able to work together with my fellow board members to make EPU even better. It’s going to be an awesome year!
I hope to see you all around this year!
